What data do I need to start an InterSpread Plus model?

A Market file and a Farm file , these files define the location of markets and farms in the study area. This information can be extracted from existing GIS and animal databases. In addition to these files, the model also requires a number of parameters such as values for infectivity and probability of transmission to be set. This type of data can be obtained from academic journals and research litrature. The parameters are termed Setttings in InterSpread Plus and are categorised into Sections.
You will not need to input values for all the settings in all the sections. Most settings are optional and default to a certain value. To check if a setting is required or not, have a look in the Information window which will give a brief explanation of the setting, or look up the setting in the help file. If you are a beginner, we recommend that you check our Flying Lessons tutorial. The turtorial will take you step by step through the process of building a small foot-and-mouth disease outbreak. We have provided sample data for building this model.

Do I need to fill out all the parameter settings before I can start simulating?

Yes. You only need to fill out the parameter settings that are labeled as "Required" and "Conditional" in the Model section.

What type of output can I expect to see from InterSpread Plus?

The results of simulations are output from InterSpread Plus in the form of text files, which can easily be imported into a statistical tool, such as R for analysis. The user can select the type of information that needs to be output from the model Output section.
